How ethos, positionality, identity, training and experience help activist messages accomplish social change

This unit our goal is to understand how ethos, positionality, identity, training and experience help activist messages accomplish social change (or in some cases, make it challenging). After reading Wells and interpretations of her work by Libertz and Hannah-Jones, what do you notice about how Wells tries to gain credibility with her audience? What does she do that might be successful? What might be risky, and why? Use Libertz and at least one of Wells\’ speeches to discuss how her writing creates a sense of credibility for her message. Keep in mind the complexity and challenges that Wells faced as a Black woman accusing white men of murder and government officials of allowing murder (particularly given that her work resulted in violent threats that forced her to leave Memphis early on in her career).
