What would you do if the chief calls you into his office the next day and offers you a transfer to a high-status position that will definitely lead to a promotion

It must be 300 words, double spaced. You can either choose option 1 or 2. For the option you choose, you have an option to do an ethical issue or ethical dilemma.
OPTION #1:

You are working in internal affairs, and in the course of another investigation, you discover disturbing evidence regarding the police chief’s son, who is also an officer in the department. Several informants have confided in you that this individual has roughed them up and taken their drugs, yet you find no record of arrest or the drugs being logged in the evidence room. When you write your report, your sergeant tears it up and tells you that there is not enough evidence to justify an investigation and for you to stick to what you are told to do. What would you do? What would you do if the chief calls you into his office the next day and offers you a transfer to a high-status position that will definitely lead to a promotion?

OPTION #2:

You are a probation officer who must prepare sentencing recommendation reports for the judge. The juvenile defendant to be sentenced in one case grew up in a desperately poor family, according to school records. He had a part-time job in a local grocery store, stocking the shelves and providing general cleanup. The store owner caught him stealing meat. Actually, this is the second time he has been caught stealing food. The first time he shoplifted at the store, the deferred adjudication included his commitment to work for the store owner. He explained that he was trying to help his mother, who could not provide enough food for his family. In general, failure to succeed at deferred adjudication results in a commitment to a juvenile facility. What would you recommend to the judge?

Ethical Dilemma Assignment:

Please use the ethical dilemma OR ethical issue breakdown and questions from Chapter 2 power point to help you go step by step through this process. (You only pick one.) Please go back through the end of Chapter 2 PP to make sure you understand the process.

ETHICAL ISSUE:

General Framework:

(1) Relevant Law? (What law do you think applies? Google it)

(2) Relevant Policies? (If you can’t find any policies, just write “I am unable to find any policies that are relevant to this matter.” Try looking up the policies in place for an internal affairs investigator or a probation officer, etc.)

(3) Which ethical principles will be applied? (You can use anything from the class so far. Ex: ethical systems, front page test, justice theories, empathy, cultural and societal influences, work environment, etc. You have the entire textbook and all of my power points, there is no reason why you wouldn’t easily be able to fill out this portion. Tell me about the principles and how you would apply them.)

Critical thinking questions:

(1) What info an I USING in coming to a conclusion?

(2) What info do I NEED to settle the question?

(3) Is there another way to INTERPRET the info?

(4) What ASSUMPTION led to my conclusion?

(5) Is there another POINT OF VIEW to consider?

(6) What CONSEQUENCES might be the result of the conclusion?
