From the syllabus: This project requires you to work individually to explore how professionals in your academic discipline approach the world (their lens). Specifically, you will strive to learn how that view and disciplinary knowledge frames how problems are identified and solved. You will write a 3 to 5 page paper examining the vertical discipline that you have as a major or, if undeclared, one that you are interested in. This paper will examine how innovation occurs in that that industry segment. We will write over a couple of weeks. You will turn in a draft at the halfway point. Draft is a key word here. Could just be an outline or it can be the paper in draft form. You will get feedback towards your final version. Part of the grade will be your use of sentence structure, grammar, and spelling. Your paper should address the following, in an order that you deem appropriate for your subject. – Introduce the industry – Discuss generally what kind of people work in that industry – Discuss an important tool or process or regulation or (?) involved in that industry – Follow that tool or process or regulation or (?) from when it was first used up to now o It would be good to pick something that, in some form or another, has been around for a long time so that you have a good amount to write about (or something that changes often) o You will be looking for inflection points, where changes or improvements happened and how they were adopted, who was responsible for them o How long did it take the inventor to get it to market? – You will use our class discussions about generalized entrepreneurship, problem identification, traits, mindset, learning and change agent to see how the salient points of those discussions played into the particular solution that your paper is discussing. How did any of the things we have discussed help bring about a solution or pivot?
