In chapter 6, the authors identify gambling as having a major role in the rationalization and modernization of sport. In order to make gambling fair, sport has to be fair. So, that might be considered a positive impact.

Insurance fraud in health care, specifically physical therapy, lead to regulations (a form of rationalization and modernization) in health insurance policies. One consequence is that the number of visits a patient can have is determined by insurance companies rather than by health care professionals. So, that might be considered a negative impact.

There are numerous ways that modernization and rationalization have shaped kinesiology. For this assignment, write a short essay (no more than 1 page) that identifies and assesses how modernization and rationalization has impacted something related to kinesiology. The first part of the essay should identify what that something is and describe how rationalization and modernization impacted it. The second part of the essay should assess that impact from an ethical perspective. Try to assess it from a utilitarian perspective.
