Qualitative methodologies
Qualitative methodologies
There are many approaches to qualitative research and no fully agreed upon “list” of methodologies. The text (Leedy & Ormrod, 2016) describes methodologies from one list. Chwalisz, Shah, and Hand (2008) describe qualitative methodologies from the perspective of a different list. The best way to learn about a variety of qualitative research methods is to read reports of research around a topic you are interested in. St-Onge, Morin, Bellehumeur, and Dupuis (2009) is an article that describes a study using basic qualitative research methodology. Pay attention to how the method is described. Suzuki, Ahluwalia, Mattis, and Quizon, (2005) does not describe a specific study, but gives a description of another type of qualitative research–ethnography. A search for qualitative research of a particular topic area may reveal a variety of qualitative research in that area.
For your initial post, find two dissertations that use a qualitative research method to answer a research question that is in the same topic area as your own Research Proposal. Briefly describe the research methods utilized in each of the dissertations you selected. You may refer to the week’s reading (or recommended articles) to help you explain. Compare and contrast the two qualitative methods used: What is the same and what is different and why?
