The son is born a few days before Odysseus leaves for the Trojan War. Penelope remains faithful for the twenty year period that her husband is away in the war. She goes through numerous challenges trying to construct different strategies to delay being married by one of the suitors interested in her, key among them, Antinous. Her loyalty to her husband portrays her as ambivalent and a symbol of fidelity in marriage. Odysseus returns after the twenty years, disguised as an old beggar and is pleased with Penelope’s faithfulness to him for all the years.
